Solid core vs builder-grade hollow core

Every AMG interior door is solid core.

The difference is immediate — quieter rooms, a heavier close and better screw hold for hardware.

AMG solid core

  • Up to 50% less sound*
  • Dense engineered core
  • Substantial, quieter feel
  • Stronger hardware support

Typical hollow core

  • Minimal sound control
  • Thin skins + honeycomb
  • Lightweight, hollow feel
  • Less screw-hold support

Corner / edge cut

Match existing jamb
Standard
5/8" radius hinge corner diagram

5/8" Radius

Slightly rounded corners — the most common cut in current production builds. Matches almost every prehung jamb mortise on the market today.

1/4" radius hinge corner diagram

1/4" Radius

Tighter rounded corner used in many older tract and remodeled homes. Required when matching existing mortises without re-routing the jamb.

Square corner hinge diagram

Square Corner

Crisp 90° corners. Modern, contemporary, and minimalist installs — also the standard for most older Bay Area homes pre-1970s.

Not sure which cut you have? Snap a photo of an existing hinge during your free in-home measure — we'll match it exactly.

Step 3 · Casing

Trim profiles

AMG strips the old casing and re-trims every opening so the millwork looks built-in — not patched. Each profile is available in primed MDF (paint-grade) or solid pine (stain-grade).

FAQ / 01

Common Questions

Interior Door
Cost Guide FAQ

Common questions about interior door replacement costs, solid-core upgrades, hardware, hinges, casing and AMG's installation process in the Bay Area.

  • 01What is the difference between slab and prehung interior doors?

A slab is the door panel only and may be used when the existing frame and jamb are in good condition. A prehung door includes the door, jamb, and hinges and is often better when the opening needs a cleaner reset.

  • 02Can I replace hollow-core doors with solid-core doors?

Yes. Many homeowners upgrade hollow-core doors to solid-core options for better privacy, less sound transfer, and a more premium feel.

  • 03Do I need to replace the jambs too?

Not always. If the existing jambs are square, clean, and in good condition, slab replacement may work. If the jambs are damaged, inconsistent, or causing fit issues, prehung replacement may be better.

  • 04How much does it cost to replace an interior door in the Bay Area?

AMG interior door projects typically range from $550 for a basic slab replacement to $2,250 for a barn or closet system, depending on the door style, frame condition, hardware, casing and finish work required.

  • 05Can AMG replace all interior doors in one project?

Yes. AMG Doors & Windows can review multiple bedroom, bathroom, closet, hallway, office, and living area doors during the consultation and quote a whole-home interior door refresh as one package.
